Sometimes the more one grows in religious practice, the more they grow in self righteousness and judgement. This is a sign of a problem inside. It is a sign, that internal cleansing is necessary. Growing in religion should only make us grow in compassion, not in judgement. The heart filled with God is softened, not hardened. If it is becoming hardened towards people, perhaps it is not God filling the heart, but rather the self, decorated by the false cloak of piety and religious devotion.

Whenever I have an issue with someone and I feel negatively about him/her, I always almost immediately think of how upset Allah would get knowing how I’m feeling. So I always try NOW to not feel ill-will towards anyone. š
